Holding Up.

There are stories behind the things that we have in our homes,
don't you think?

I mean, what's the point of looking at things
if there's not a person or a pleasant thought linking the love.

I just purchased that tiny little farm scene from a friend's yard sale.
She was selling everything,
or pretty nearly everything,

The scene is a sweet one,
and so now when I look at it,
I think of her and send a little prayer up for her day.

It sits on a shelf I purchased at a yard sale a few weeks ago.

I knew I had the perfect spot for this $2 shelf.

Annie Sloan's Provence paint is still filling about half a can,
so I used some of it, since the shelf had quite a few marred places on it,
then some crackle paint,
then a mixture paint I made of a slight shade off from the Provence.

Of course,
the stained wax on the sanded piece gave it a finished look.

The farm scene diorama was created by my husband's grandfather.
He was such a sweet man; it's a fond reminder of him.

The shelf filled an empty spot on our enclosed porch...

and the pieces it holds carry memories
while working with the theme for the space.

(I hope to finish some projects on the porch
and then finally do a post on it so you can see how it all works together
since Kelly's Korner is doing a link party on
"dining rooms",
and that is what this space serves as for us.

Until then, if you'd like to enjoy a visit to other dining rooms,

  2. What a sweet shelf. It looks great after your redo. I also like your idea of praying for the person who gave you an item. I need prayer reminders around me.

  3. I love those things that hold memories, too. That's what makes a house my home.

  4. I couldn't agree with you more. When I began blogging I realized almost every vignette (for example)) I have includes a special piece from a special person and/or place. Your shelf looks right at home on your porch!
