Bowl Full of Fun

 Happy Valentine's Weekend!

Have you hugged somebody today?
Find a body near you and give them a hug
(preferably somebody you know, of course!
If you don't know them, you could offer them one of these jelly squares.

Just a thought.)

You'll feel better about your day,
and they will, too!

Here's the super easy recipe for some fun, lovin' snacks:
kids love them,
they're sweet and fun,
and they're low-fat, too!

You cannot get much better than that!!

First make the Gelatin Squares
or "Jelly Squares"
as they are called in the "Whole Foods for the Whole Family" Cookbook.

Jelly Squares:
3 Tablespoons unflavored gelatin
1 cup water
6 oz. frozen juice concentrate, thawed (sweet concentrate should be used: apple or grape)

Soften gelatin in water in saucepan.  Heat over low heat, stirring until gelatin
dissolves.  Add juice concentrate, mixing well. Pour into shallow 8 x 8 inch dish.  Chill until set.  Cut into 1 inch squares.  Serve as finger foods.  These stay firm at room temperature, but store left-overs in the refrigerator.

(On a side note: if you are expecting the taste of store-boxed jello jigglers, you may need to ad a little sugar or natural sweetener.  This recipe makes great tasting jelly squares, just not as sweet.  My kids gobble them up regardless, so why mess up a good thing?!)

For some added color and fun,
I cut up some dried papaya heart shapes.

(Yes, I know they are orange.
I couldn't think of anything red that I had available,

BUT

Orange hearts are fun, too!
and papaya is so very good for the body)

 Cut off a corner...

 and then another corner.

Next, trim the tip off the upper corner...

and do the same on the other top side.

In between the two upper corners,
cut into the center a little way.

Cut into the center again from the other direction...

so a little triangle trims out.

This triangle should be eaten by you or the nearest child.

 Trim the top a little
to make it look more rounded.

 Most papaya pieces are fat,
so they may be sliced in half...

so you'll get two hearts from one shaping.

Place the Gelatin squares in a pretty bowl
and then ad the papaya hearts...

for a bowl full of fun!
