If I Hadn't Hung the Laundry...

If I hadn't hung the laundry
on Monday afternoon,

I wouldn't have seen that the hydrangeas are blooming already...

I wouldn't have taken a walk to the wild garden
that desperately needs to be cleaned up
because there are actually strawberry plants under there...

but the sight of these hot pink campion flowers
made up for the hidden strawberries.

If I hadn't hung the laundry,
I would have missed the blooming astilbe,

I would have missed the sundrops...

whose smiling yellow faces
were dripping with pollen...

much to the delight of the pollen shoppers.

I would have missed the exquisite bell flowers,

and the delicate pink clematis.

If I hadn't stepped outside to hang the clothes,

I wouldn't have visited with Misty and Jake...

I would have missed the dog quietly lapping up fresh water from the weekend's terrible storms;...

and the boy admiring it's newness.

Of course,
I wouldn't have brought my camera if I hadn't hung the laundry,
so I wouldn't have left it at the barn
and had to ask Violet to go get it.

I would have missed her pictures:
a picture of her foot...

and other random photos as well.

"Gratitude unleashes the freedom to live content in the moment,
rather than being anxious about the future or regretting the past." - Ellen Vaughn

(I read this from Choosing Gratitude
by Nancy Leight DeMoss)

Laundry on Monday afternoon is not my idea of conquering the world,
living daunting adventures...

but it can be a moment of,
"abounding with thanksgiving."
Colossians 2:7b

And that is what I need to see the bits of splendor in life:

a heart of gratitude.

I'm working on it,
as I work on my laundry.

  2. Loved your walk-about.
Yes, it is all that is simply and right before our eyes, within grasp that reminds us that this world is still beautiful and we are blessed because our Creator is near, His Son is waiting to hear from us, and His Spirit whispers to us.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Cheers,
